Lithuanian is one of the most fascinating and ancient living languages in the world. As the most conservative living Indo-European language, it preserves archaic grammatical structures, declensions, and pitch accents that have long disappeared from other European tongues. However, if you have ever tried to learn Lithuanian online, you have likely encountered a major roadblock: mainstream commercial apps like Duolingo simply do not offer it.
The few online platforms that do include Lithuanian often rely on traditional flashcards or rote grammar tables. While memorizing isolated dictionary forms (lemmas) might help you pass a basic vocabulary matching test, it fails when you try to speak or understand real Lithuanian sentences.
In Lithuanian, words change their endings dramatically based on grammatical cases, tenses, and genders. For example, the dictionary word for "coffee" is kava, but when you drink it in the morning, it becomes kavą (accusative case). If you only study isolated word lists, your brain has to manually run through complex mental grammar tables every time you construct a sentence.
LitCloze solves this by using cloze sentences (fill-in-the-blank cards in context). Instead of memorizing isolated vocabulary, you practice completing natural sentences drawn directly from native Lithuanian corpora. By seeing and typing the exact inflected form required by the sentence, you develop natural linguistic intuition.
To make vocabulary stick long-term without overwhelming you with endless reviews, LitCloze is powered by the state-of-the-art Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler (FSRS). Unlike legacy algorithms from twenty years ago, FSRS analyzes your individual memory stability and difficulty per word, scheduling reviews right at the optimal point before memory decay occurs.
